Found a time-lapse app for my Palm. Too bad the day didn't go by this quickly.

Filling the Pond at Camp Alpine

I had always wanted to see what it was like when the pond was filling. I converted my rocket cam to take time lapse pictures every 5 minutes. They closed the head gate at noon on Saturday. We stayed till about 8 p.m., even getting the canoes out for bit.

When we came back Monday, we found two problems. First, the pond was drained again. There was a problem with the head gate and they had to empty it to fix it. Second, the camera apparently drained the battery and only operated during the day while the sun was hitting the charger. That is what I get for wiring it up the night before.

A bug by any other name

The first computer "bug" was a moth found gumming up the works in Harvard's Mark II computer in 1946. Eldon found this moth the other day and turned it over to our resident entomologist, Ann.
We didn't have much luck identifying it, so we turned to the web crowd to help. With in an hour, we learned that is was a Smerinthus cerisyi, or One-eyed Sphinx. It doesn't eat as an adult, but the caterpillar eat Aspen or Willow leaves. She is laying eggs, so we may try to raise some.
